What is a Private Detective Under the law 108 “Law of Private Detectives of Puerto Rico, a private detective is one that private purposes or for the benefit of individuals only, and contracts its services to: (1) Conduct research or investigations with the purpose of obtaining public information about crime, damage or attempt to cause them, the habits, reliability, conduct, movement, whereabouts, association, transactions, reputation or character of any person, the location of stolen or lost property in order to recover the same through appropriate legal procedures, the causes of, or origin of or responsibility for accidents or fire or damage to movable or immovable property, the occurrence of any event, the truth or falsity of any expression or representation. (2) Seek or obtain evidence for use before investigating committees or boards or arbitration or the courts of justice in civil or professional cases. (3) to protect persons or property movable or immovable, or to avoid theft, embezzlement or theft or illegal money, bonds, shares or securities or any kinds of documents.
